How Live‑in Care Works Day to Day

We understand that inviting a carer into your loved one's home on a full-time basis raises many practical questions. Here is how we handle the day-to-day reality of live-in care.

Accommodation

The live-in carer requires a private bedroom in the home, access to a bathroom, shared use of the kitchen and reasonable household facilities.

Active hours

Live-in carers typically work around 8–10 active hours per day, with rest periods agreed in advance. For clients requiring support through the night, a waking night or sleep-in arrangement is included in the care plan.

Carer rotation

We operate a planned rotation of carers to provide consistency whilst ensuring each carer has adequate rest. Clients and families are always introduced to any incoming carer before the handover takes place.

Handover notes

Detailed handover notes are completed at every carer changeover, so there is no loss of continuity in your loved one's care.

Family involvement

Family members are always welcome to visit, stay and be fully involved in their loved one's care. We see families as partners, not bystanders.

The specific accommodation and logistics of live-in care are discussed in full during the free home assessment, so everything is agreed and comfortable before care begins.

How Quickly Can Live‑in Care Begin?

Standard Live‑in Care

Following a completed free home assessment, live-in care can typically be arranged and begin within 5–7 working days.

Urgent Live‑in Care

In urgent situations — following a sudden deterioration, hospital discharge or carer breakdown — we will prioritise your assessment and aim to have a live-in carer in place within 48 hours where possible.

Urgent live-in care — we aim for 48 hours

Funding Live‑in Care at Home

Live-in care can be funded in several ways. We are happy to discuss the options with you and help point you in the right direction — though we do not provide formal financial advice.

Private Self-Funding

You arrange and fund live-in care directly. Full costs are discussed transparently during the free assessment — no hidden charges.

Direct Payments

If Essex County Council has assessed your loved one as eligible for funded care, a direct payment may be provided to purchase live-in care from a provider of your choice.

Local Authority Funding

A care needs assessment by Essex County Council may result in a contribution towards the cost of live-in care, depending on eligible needs and financial circumstances.

NHS Continuing Healthcare

For those whose primary need is health-related, fully funded live-in care may be available through NHS Continuing Healthcare, following a formal NHS assessment.

We do not display pricing on our website. All costs are discussed openly and transparently during your free, no-obligation assessment.
